2008 season
The following results for this season are-
Hull Canary Club, 342 entries Best in Show (variegated yellow hen) Best Novice, Best Clear, Best Dark, Best Variegated, Best Opp Sex Cleveland Border and Fife, 220 entries Best in Show (self green yellow hen) Best Novice, Best Clear, Best Dark, Best Variegated, Best Opp Sex
North of England, 1200 entries
Best Novice Ticked/Lightly Variegated (yellow cock) Northumberland and Durham FFCC Best Novice - Self Buff Green Cock and Best Variegated - Variegated Yellow Cock 2007 Season With 102 chicks bred I had a great breeding season with very few problems. 1st show Hull CBS - This show had a record number of fifes with 500 plus birds. I was awarded 4th, 5th and 6th Best Novice along with Best Opp Sex, Best Clear, Best TPD and Best Cinnamon, next show was Cleveland Border and Fife. This is my local show and this is the first year that a Fife section has been added to what was the Cleveland Border show. The border men introduced a Fife section into the show to help combat falling numbers of borders and asked me to be the Fife rep which I accepted. We had approx 200 fifes entered but only 160 showed which I suppose wasn't bad for the first show but I was still a bit disappointed that more North-East fanciers hadn't supported us. The show clashes with the West of Scotland and the North West Fife so in reality we cant expect too much. Next year the North West have moved there show date to the following week so maybe we may pick up a few extra entries. Anyway all who came enjoyed the show, the prize money was excellent for a first show and many thanks to those who donated winnings back inc my good mate Eddie Parkin (Best Novice and Best Fife) and Mr Malcolm Barnet (Best Border) Also anyone who would like to help out at next years show can contact me to discuss it. By the way I had 2nd, 3rd, 5th and 6th Best Novice inc Best Opp Sex, Best Clear Best Cinnamon and Best TPD, then bird flu struck! so instead of the North of England my next show was Northumberland and Durham. The day started disastrously, my 6 box carrying handle came away from the box and the box dropped to the ground, I made a swift repair and hoped for the best. When I got to the show and opened the box there was oat husks and feathers everywhere - luckily none of the birds had been hurt. I gave them a quick once-over and put them in the show fearing the worst although I still had some nice birds in my other boxes to pin my hopes on. On my return I was over the moon to see my self-cinnamon had taken a special and 17 of my birds were in the first 2 places inc 8 firsts - so all in all I had a good show. I've now finished showing for the year and am now sorting my stock for next breeding season. I've managed to acquire some nice birds from Gerald this year so cant wait for the breeding season!
2006 season 1st show- Hull CBS - Best Novice, Best Green, Best Clear, Best Variegated, Best TPD, Best White and Best Opp Sex! I couldn't fit my head through the birdroom door when I got home!! next I went to the West of Scotland and got 2nd,3rd and 5th Best Novice inc Best Self Green, Best TPD and Best Clear, next was the North of England (the biggest fife show in the UK) where I got Best Clear (a result I consider to be my best!) next was South Bank CBS (I didn't expect to do well here as my birds had gone soft!). Here I got Best Novice and Best Fife in Show also 2nd Best Exhibit in Show, Best Clear, Best Variegated, Best Self, Best White and Best Opp Sex, next was Northumberland and Durham (again my bids
were throwing feathers!!) although I didn't do as well as I hoped I still got Best
Nov Clear and a few class winners! All in all for my first year I was over the
moon!,
