Management Methods

My breeding season starts earlier than most as I use lighting and heating to bring them in condition quicker. I use Ce-De softfood as I did with my Borders. I've tried others but found Ce-De to be the best. I feed sprouted soaked seed during the breeding season and throughout the moult. My greenfood varies from lots of wild plants, dandelions, meadowsweet, plantain, wild teazle, rape leaves etc to spinach, leaf-beet, dark cabbage and broccoli (although Im starting to use broccoli less and less favoring the other greens instead!) Spinach is full of iron and my birds love it. I occasionally use sprout tops but I've stopped giving lettuce as it has hardly any nutritional value. I don't feed cuttlefish but prefer to give my birds a soluble calcium supplement instead. I feed grit as required and add charcoal to feeding chicks. My birds get apple every day when feeding and two or three times a week in winter with greens pro-rata. I've showed my birds for two seasons now and met some good genuine people who will help you if they can, my first season I bred 70 chicks and did very well on the showbench.
